Priced at under $6,000, Unitree’s R1 makes humanoid robotics more accessible than ever.
Unitree has unveiled its new humanoid robot, the R1, priced at just USD $5,900, a fraction of the cost of most humanoids currently on the market. The launch marks a significant step toward making humanoid robots more accessible and practical for wider adoption.
The R1 is lighter and more agile than Unitree’s earlier G1 model, standing 1.2 meters tall and weighing 25 kg. It features 26 joint modules, lifelike mobility, and supports secondary development through ROS 2, with an educational variant offering options such as dexterous hands and NVIDIA Jetson Orin for enhanced computing power.
Unitree credited its in-house development and manufacturing of motors, reducers, and other core components for keeping costs down, alongside scaling production. This strategy has helped reduce the price compared to the G1, which cost over $13,000.
While the R1 currently relies on remote control, Unitree said autonomy is possible with further development. The company emphasized realistic expectations, noting that global adoption in factories, services, and homes will take time as safety standards and technology evolve.
